On 18 January 2025, from under the ruins of St. Andrew's Cathedral in Zaporizhzhia, a surviving shrine – an icon of Apostle Andrew the First-Called was extracted, Archpriest Hennadiy Yelin reports.
The icon was painted by the nuns of St Nicholas Monastery in Patras (Greece), consecrated on the relics of the holy apostle and contains parts of St Andrew’s relics, as well as parts of the Cross on which he was crucified.
Despite the significant destruction of the cathedral, the shrine remained almost intact.
As earlier reported by the UOJ, a Russian missile strike destroyed St Andrew's Cathedral of the UOC in Zaporizhzhia.
