"Pro-LGBTI": Ukrainian MPs support PACE gender resolution

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has adopted Resolution 2417 condemning "attacks on LGBTI people", reports the PACE website.

All delegates from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, who had the right to vote in adopting the Resolution, supported the motion.

The Resolution recognises that while "LGBTI rights" are being enacted in legislation in various countries, there is a growing number of attacks against LGBTI persons. In particular, the Resolution says, “The rising hatred we are witnessing today is not simply an expression of individual prejudice, but the result of sustained and often well-organised attacks on the human rights of LGBTI people throughout the European continent”.

The Assembly considers the situation of "LGBTI rights" in Hungary, Poland, the Russian Federation, Turkey and the United Kingdom to be particularly depressing. Member states, according to the Resolution, should "refrain from enacting legislation or adopting constitutional amendments that are contrary to the rights of LGBTI people, and repeal any such provisions already in force".

The Assembly strongly encourages parliamentarians “to improve their understanding of the human rights challenges faced by LGBTI people in their country and abroad".

Three delegates from Ukraine – Yuliya Ovchinnikova and Maria Mezentseva from the “Servant of the People” and Lesia Vasilenko from “Holos” – were eligible to vote. All of them supported the resolution. Yevheniia Kravchuk and Maryna Bardina, who did not have the right to vote, also spoke in support of the Resolution. They were quoted by European LGBT activist Cianan B. Russell.

"States should recognise that LGBTI people are particularly vulnerable during the COVID19 crisis, and be sure to take their needs into account in responding." Yevheniia Kravchuk  @PACE_Equality

"The anti-gender movement is one of the key reasons that the Istanbul Convention remains unadopted by countries around Europe." Maryna Bardina @PACE_Equality

As reported, the NGO “Miriane” exposed the Council of Europe's deceitfulness on the Istanbul Convention.
