UOC cleric organizes the evacuation of 1,500 residents of Kyiv region
Archpriest Boris Kovalchuk, rector of the church in honor of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica in Pylypovychi of the Kyiv diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, helped evacuate more than 1,500 civilians during the occupation of the Borodianka district by Russian troops, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko reports.
According to Father Boris, when Russian troops entered Pylypovychi, he spoke on behalf of the acting village headman with the military and received permission to evacuate civilians. “For five trips, about one and a half thousand civilians were taken out. They returned back with medicines and food for the entire village,” said the priest of the UOC.
At the same time, Father Boris was the first to go in each convoy with refugees, in case of shelling. Also, the priest of the UOC took out 11 bodies of dead servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Recall that the community of the UOC church in honor of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica in Pylypovichi was subjected to a raider attack by local authorities, who illegally had tried to transfer it to the OCU.
