Patriarch Kirill praises the WCC position towards the Russian Church
During a conversation with the Acting General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca, Patriarch Kirill noted the importance of ending the war in Ukraine through negotiations and dialogue, rather than bloodshed and destruction. It is reported by patriarhia.ru.
According to the Acting General Secretary of the WCC, one of the goals of his visit to Moscow was to decide how to "stop the bloodshed and prevent the danger of a nuclear fire."
“Now is a very difficult time, but the present difficulties come not from the churches, but from the political context, this context being extremely dangerous. We can't even imagine how close we are to a very dangerous development of relations between peoples. Therefore, today the Churches should not add fuel to the fire – we should do everything to put out the burning fires. In this sense, the World Council of Churches and the inter-Christian movement basically have a very important function. An active but neutral position of the World Council of Churches, which does not back one or another political side in this conflict, is, in my opinion, the only correct one, which must be continued. Churches per se have a peacemaking potential. If a particular church starts waving the flag of war, calling for confrontation, it challenges its nature,” said Patriarch Kirill.
Recall, the Acting General Secretary of the WCC met with Patriarch Kirill.
