SVS Grad Elected to Serve as Bishop in Kenya
Archimandrite Philip Mugadizi to lead Diocese of Kisumu and Western Kenya.
YONKERS, NY — St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary (SVOTS) has shared prayers for Archimandrite Philip Mugadizi (Class of ’03) as he prepares to serve as bishop in Kenya. Earlier this fall, the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, chaired by Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II, elected Archimandrite Philip as Bishop of the Orthodox Diocese of Kisumu and Western Kenya. He was among several priests elevated to the episcopate during the session.
Bishop-elect Philip holds a bachelor’s degree in leadership and management from St. Paul’s University in Kenya and earned his Master of Divinity from St. Vladimir’s Seminary in 2003. He currently serves as Deputy Dean and Lecturer at the Orthodox Patriarchal Ecclesiastical School of Makarios III Archbishop of Cyprus in Nairobi.
The Seminary offered congratulations and prayers, saying: “May God grant Bishop-Elect Philip many years!”
Previously, UOJ reported that Bishop Neofitos Kong’ai was elevated to Metropolitan by the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
