UOC Primate: sometimes people want to make the Church an accessory to particular political party

In his sermon on the repose day of His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Vladimir, the primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church noted his predecessor remained a faithful son of the Church. It is reported by the UOC Awareness-Raising Department.

“Serving of His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir was not easy. He saw different political systems, lived in different social environments, but always remained a faithful son of the Holy Orthodox Church”, said the Primate. His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir headed the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for 22 years. His name is associated with canonicity consolidation of our Church, rejuvenation of the church life, multiplication of parishes and monasteries.

Speaking about the Church having led a human being at all times and ambiences towards salvation, Metropolitan Onuphry reminded that life is a period of time when man should prepare himself for eternal life.”His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir steered a steady course of this destination and service. He endured a lot, and thanks to his obedience, meekness, a sensible word, and a prayer was able to overcome all the trials. He is a role model for us in the way how we must care about our salvation», concluded the Metropolitan.

He underscored not everybody is aware of this truth. “Sometimes people want to make the Church an attachment to some political party. This is a wrong attitude, altogether”.

The Metropolitan also added a human being should not strive to accumulate earthly riches, to human glory. He must remember instead that “his earthly life determines his future celestial lot”.

It will be reminded on 5 July in Kiev, the dead-office Divine Liturgy was held in Kiev-Pevhersk Lavra to commemorate the deceased Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Vladimir (Sabodan).
