Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, August 28, marking their first conversation in a year. On Thursday, "Reshet Bet" explained that the discussion centered around the annual pilgrimage of Breslov Hasidic Jews to Uman for Rosh Hashanah, which is approaching.
A few days ago, Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevhen Korniychuk remarked that the Israeli Prime Minister only calls when he needs something.
Although Ukrainian media reported yesterday that the two leaders discussed the situation in the Middle East and that "the Israeli Prime Minister expressed support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," Israeli media clarified that the "situation in the Middle East" was merely the official version of the conversation.
"Members of the coalition, as they do every year, are pressuring Netanyahu to resolve issues related to the pilgrims in Uman," reported israelinfo. "The pilgrimage to Uman wasn't stopped by either the coronavirus or the war in Ukraine. Kyiv has attempted to restrict this event due to security concerns, but it's like trying to stop a landslide. The pilgrims still arrived, and as every year, Ukrainian social media is filled with videos showing the state in which they leave trains and buses."
As reported by the UOJ, according to the former Knesset member, there is currently a war for the Temple.
