The head of the Montenegrin Church, Metropolitan Joanikije, stated during a sermon at the Divine Liturgy in Podgorica that repentance and prayer are the only means to end wars, according to the Serbian Telegram channel UOJ.
“Let us pray during this fast for our salvation, for the salvation of our neighbors, and for peace to prevail,” said Metropolitan Joanikije. “The world is in great turmoil, and innocent blood is being shed. There seems to be no one ready to work for peace at this moment. But we, as Christians, must pray to God for fewer wars, less bloodshed, fewer innocent sufferings, and fewer soldiers killed. We pray for reconciliation, a ceasefire, and the cessation of bloodshed.”
The Metropolitan emphasized that not everything is resolved with atomic bombs, but through God’s grace.
“Grace sustains and preserves this world, and we constantly call upon it. It renews our minds, thoughts, and feelings, pouring love into our hearts – not just for our neighbors and friends but also for our enemies. This is what Christians must always desire and strive for,” concluded the hierarch.
Earlier, UOJ reported that, according to the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, the calling of Russians is to be “warriors of the Lord.”
