One rival bishop referred to Anglicans who use the Missal or wear chasubles as “papists" and compared such practices to witchcraft.

OCTOBER 16, 2025 — Archbishop Mark Haverland of the Anglican Catholic Church (ACC) announced the termination of the intercommunion agreement with the United Episcopal Church of North America (UECNA) citing theological and institutional divergences, reports The Certain Trumpet.

The rift stems from differing interpretations of the Affirmation of St. Louis (1977), a cornerstone for the ACC’s "Catholic" identity. Haverland emphasized its role as a doctrinal benchmark, while Robinson criticized it for undermining Anglican formularies like the Book of Common Prayer.

Tensions were exacerbated by UECNA’s perceived shift toward Reformed theology and actions like consecrating Rev. Erastus Long, a vocal critic of Anglo-Catholicism, as bishop of the Evangelical and Reformed Synod.

Long has referred to Anglicans who use the Missal or wear chasubles as “papists" and compared such practices to witchcraft.

The Union of Orthodox Journalists previously reported on a similar rift within the Anglican Church of America (ACA).

The UOJ also continues to cover the breakup of "mainstream" Anglicanism over the election of a female Archbishop of Canterbury.
