Holy Cross Diaconate Program Celebrates Record Enrollment

Fifty-one candidates attended this year, with 14 completing the course.
BROOKLINE, MA — From July 12-20, the Holy Cross Diaconate Program convened on the HCHC campus for an intensive summer session. Designed to support those called to assist local priests and serve in the Holy Diaconate, the program blends online theological courses with hands-on pastoral training over three years.
Summer sessions focus on teleturgical and chant instruction, complemented by participation in divine services at Holy Cross Chapel.
This year, a record 51 candidates participated, with 14 completing the program. Alumni, attending a concurrent retreat, provided valuable mentorship.
Fr. Eugen J. Pentiuc, Dean of Holy Cross, praised the leadership of Very Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Mercado and Dn. John Wise, noting the program’s growth since 2007 and its impact on the Archdiocese. He expressed gratitude to alumni and faculty, praying for the continued renewal of the diaconate.
