Ukraine Orders UOC to Transfer Epiphany Monastery to the State

The monastery complex includes the Epiphany Cathedral, a two-story monastic building with the St. Nicholas Church, the small St. Job of Pochaiv church and belltower, and several utility buildings.

KYIV — On July 24, the Economic Court of Ternopil Oblast ordered the Epiphany Women's Monastery, Kremenets, of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to transfer its property to the state, according to the Ministry of Culture.

The court dismissed the counterclaim of the Epiphany Monastery seeking to declare invalid the agreement under which the property was transferred.

The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine was involved in the case as a third party on the side of the Kremenets-Pochaiv State Historical and Architectural Reserve and actively supported the Reserve.

The monastery complex includes the Epiphany Cathedral, a two-story monastic building with the St. Nicholas Church, the small St. Job of Pochaiv church and belltower, and several utility buildings.

On September 5, 2024, a Ministry of Culture official died during an inspection of the Epiphany Monastery. The commission member suddenly lost consciousness and died on the spot.

The police had earlier stormed the Kremenets Theological School, located on the grounds of the Epiphany Monastery, and evicted the female students.
