Texas Gov. Cracks Down on Abortion Pill

AUSTIN, TX — On Thursday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed the Woman and Child Protection Act (HB 7) into law, empowering citizens to sue entities illegally trafficking abortion pills like mifepristone and misoprostol into the state.
Effective December, the measure targets a “global abortion pill syndicate” exploiting mail-order schemes, potentially saving 19,000 unborn babies annually. Authored by Rep. Jeff Leach and sponsored by Sen. Bryan Hughes, the law imposes fines up to $100,000 per violation and allows women harmed by these drugs to seek justice while protecting their privacy.
Exemptions ensure legitimate medical uses, like treating ectopic pregnancies, remain unaffected. Pro-life leaders, including Texas Right to Life’s Dr. John Seago, hailed the law as a national blueprint to dismantle abortion pill networks, emphasizing deterrence and compassion for both mothers and unborn children.
