Faithful gather in joy and thanksgiving as $960,000 loan is paid in full, marking a major milestone for Ravanica Church community.

DETROIT — On Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Lazarus – Ravanica witnessed a joyful celebration and thanksgiving dinner marking the complete repayment of the new church property, valued at $960,000.

In a prayerful and uplifting atmosphere, a large number of parishioners gathered with their priest, Fr. Aleksandar Vujković, to give thanks to God for His blessings and mercy that made this milestone possible.

In his address, Fr. Aleksandar highlighted the power of unity and prayer, stating that through faith, God builds His Church. He extended heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed — no matter the size of their gift — emphasizing that each donation was an expression of love for God and His Holy Church.

The evening was enriched by moving reflections from the parish children, who spoke about what the Church means to them — portraying it not just as a building, but as a living community of faith, love, and spiritual growth.

Mr. Ognjen Šaran, president of the Church-School Congregation, also spoke, offering thanks to all donors and supporters. He then performed the symbolic burning of the mortgage document, signifying the complete repayment of the church property loan — a moment met with heartfelt joy by all present.

The event marks a major milestone for the Ravanica parish and serves as the foundation for the next chapter: the building of a new church and cultural center, dedicated to the glory of God and the spiritual growth of generations to come.

Previously, UOJ reported that Bsp. Seraphim of Kostajnica, Vicar of the Diocese of Gracanica and Midwestern America (Serbian Orthodox Church), presided over the Divine Services for the Patronal Feast of the Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral.
