GoFundMe Launched to Help CA Priest Buy New Car

At the time of publication, the campaign has raised over $6,000 towards its $25,000 goal.

SAN FRANCISCO — Members of Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church have started an online fundraiser to purchase a dependable vehicle for their priest, Father Philip Halliwell, whose current car, a 20-year-old model with more than 250,000 miles, has become mechanically unreliable.

The GoFundMe campaign, organized by parishioner Curtis Christian, emphasizes Father Philip's essential duties that require regular travel across the Bay Area. These include hospital visits to the sick and dying, services at sister parishes, and officiating memorial and burial services for the departed.

"Every donation—no matter how small—will make a difference," the campaign page states. Funds will go toward either a new or well-maintained used car, depending on the total raised.

At the time of publication, the GoFundMe has raised over $6,000 towards its $25,000 goal.

The effort highlights the practical challenges faced by clergy in urban ministries, where reliable transportation is critical for pastoral care.
