NEW YORK CITY —  In a display of faith and philanthropy, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America's annual Nameday Gala for Archbishop Elpidophoros shattered fundraising records, amassing more than $1.2 million to support vital church initiatives, the Orthodox Observer reports.

Held at the opulent New York Hilton Midtown, the black-tie event drew over 800 distinguished guests, including clergy, dignitaries, and philanthropists from across the nation. The celebration marked the archbishop's nameday, honoring St. Elpidophoros, with tributes emphasizing His Eminence's historic leadership of the Archdiocese.

Key highlights included a heartfelt video montage of Abp. Elpidophoros's tenure, spotlighting humanitarian efforts amid global challenges. Bidding wars erupted for exclusive auction items, such as rare Orthodox icons and private dinners with church leaders, propelling donations skyward.

"Tonight's generosity reflects the unbreakable spirit of our community," Archbishop Elpidophoros proclaimed in his keynote. "These funds will empower education, youth programs, and relief for the vulnerable."

Proceeds will benefit the Archdiocese's ministries, from seminary scholarships to disaster aid. Organizers hailed the milestone as a testament to unity, with a 25% increase over last year's giving.

Last week, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported that Abp. Elpidophoros consecrated a new parish in Indiana.
